Denny's Backstory
It was the senior year of Denny Williams. He was going over scholarship offers with his mother. He lost his father just a year before, and it was just him and his mom. There is only one team you were allowed to scream for, Ohio State Buckeyes.
Ohio State was one of four final schools of his choice. Cincinnati, Florida, and South Carolina were the other three. But with his personal tragedies, he felt it was time to shake things up. So, Denny chose to attend and play football for the Gamecocks.
After injury to the starting QB, Denny was starting Game 3 as a true freshman and never looked back. He took the Gamecocks to a 11-2 record. First ever SEC Championship in school history, highest BC rank #3, and Sugar Bowl Champs.
The sophomore year was flawless. Denny lead the Gamecocks to their first ever undefeated season with their first National Championship.
With a bright future at South Carolina University, and possibly a #1 Draft pick, Denny shocked the football world. He entered the NFL Draft after his sophomore year. Every expert in the industry stated it was a poor choice and he should stay the next two years. He would be a legend at SC. When he was asked why leave so early, he replied: " I feel that I am ready for the next level. My mother could use the money, but I truely believe I can compete in the NFL."
Draft Day: Denny had a lot of media attention being the youngest ever in the draft. The rounds had come and gone. But when the Cincinnati Bengals had their 7th round pick, they picked him up.
Denny survived training camp and was 2nd on the depth chart. But Denny could not crack the starting job. Despite throwing 500 yds in the preseason, he sat the entire year. Fans screamed, for him to start, during the dismall 4-12 season.
After just one year in the league. Denny knew he was in his best shape and the game at this level was easy for him. He asked the Bengals to release him from his 2yr contract, and possibly not be picked up from another team and forced to retire early.
Now, this is where we are following Denny's career. He was offered contracts from 10 teams. They remember his years in College at SC. Denny chose to sign with the Browns. It was his chance to live out his dream in his home state.
The preseason has just finished and Denny is the starter. Cleveland takes a risk, starting their 3rd rookie QB in as many years.
In his Rookie year @ Cleveland, Denny did what LeBran could not ... bring home a championship. Denny was 3rd in yards passing, 1st in TD's, and rushed for a measly 988 yds.
Now, it is the year 2013. Denny is a Super Bowl Champion! And after 4 seasons total in football (2 @ South Carolins - 2 NFL), Denny turns in his Football cleats for a set of spikes. Denny was drafted my the Cincinnati Reds and will enter spring training this year.
Fans, writers, and owners are shocked. He has so much talent, he could be the best QB the NFL has ever seen. But he has chose to leave football and start a career in baseball.
